Sea Wolf Essays - Gray Wolf, Scavengers, Comanche People
Sea Wolf Wolf Larsen was a character in the book who never made it all the way through the book, but he tried very hard. He was a very strong, brutal man with almost no respect for human life. With all the people in the world, one dead person meant nothing to him. He was a patient man and usually kept himself under control. He was surprisingly smart and thoughtful for a pirate who lives on the sea. He loved the sea and knew many things about it, such as how to outwit his brother when he came near Wolf's boat. Humphrey Van Weydon, or Hump as he was called on the boat, was a landlubber. He had a very comfortable job, and very soft skin showing how soft his life had been. He had barely any muscles and lived a very pampered living. He was a gentleman and very proper. Being proper, he was very intelligent and had a very extensive vocabulary. He seemed very surprised when he realized Wolf and he both shared some vocabulary words and meanings. Hump wasn't used to living on a boat, but he soon learned to live on one. He became accepted on the boat with the crew. Wolf and Hump were very different people with few similarities. Wolf was very strong and bullied everyone around. He believed everyone was insignificant, while Hump was nice, proper and believed everyone was unique and we all should live and that one person can make a big difference and change in the world. Wolf also tried to turn Hump into a strong man, since Hump was a wimp in everyone's eye on the boat. Wolf had one disadvantage though, during his voyages, he read many books, but was never able to say what he read or really talk about anything he read. When Hump came along, they shared and exchanged knowledge and each learned new things about the books they read. One scene that stands out the most from the book was when Wolf Larsen was engaged in a battle with his brother. Wolf played Hide-N- Seek with his brother behind fog on the seas for a long time. During this fight, Hump and Maud Brewster, a girl whom Hump was in love with and was trapped on the boat too, got on a small boat and sailed to safety away from Wolf's boat to freedom. Only later after Hump saw Wolf's boat stranded on the island where Hump and Maud were living did he hear from Wolf that his brother came on board during the night and offered everyone a chance to get away and paid them to go on his boat. Wolf's boat didn't have any crew left after everyone left. Sea Wolf and Dove surprisingly had many similarities between them. Sea Wolf was a story was told on the sea and in first person just as Dove had been done. In the sea, Hump worked under Wolf Larsen as a crewman while Robin worked under the stress of finishing the journey around the world. In both books the main character found true love. Hump found and fell in love with Maud while Robin fell in love with Patti. Finally, both stories ended with the problems solved, Wolf Larsen died leaving Hump free from stress of him killing him, and robin finished the journey to have a family and spend the rest of his time with his wife Patti.

From the assessment, Williams realized that teachers were not aware of the use of some formative tests that could be used to know how students are performing. Another interesting thing is that teachers were not aware of the performance of various students present at the class. An example is that of the performance of various races in the class. On the reasons why students with disabilities failed, William assessed and realized that students in these classes were at special classes all days without a chance to interact with the students at regular classes. This, Williams concluded, affected the way students with disabilities were learning. There is a need to have the sessions of students with disabilities with normal classes. There are some causal theories that are talked of that contribute to the reasons that cause the low performance of most schools. Many theories have pinpointed the various issues dealing with students and their performance. I, therefore, feel that teachers should be taught to learn from those teachers at the high-performing schools. There are some practices that are not followed at poor performing schools. These should be ironed out so that the studnts will get an equal treatment. Parents should also take part in encouraging their children to study hard because without any self-drive, it is hard to attain goals that one wants. The need for leadership in the change process cannot be overstated. A lot of reforms have failed due to the lack of some quality leadership. It is not, however, usual for a teacher to return from the conference happy about a new technique, idea, or the way to curriculum only to have a principal criticizing him or her. Competence should be instilled in the faculty if resilient reforms are to be achieved. I believe that leadership affects and brings changes to every sector of the school leadership. Many schools have failed because they do not have any proper leadership. The leaders that these schools include do not have the required vision and the strategies to have successful programmes at these schools. There is the feeling that the government should come in and provide support first to the leaders. Creating new schools come with many challenges; firstly, you have to integrate the staff originated from various schools. There is also the need to merge teachers with different environmental backgrounds, knowledge, and experiences for a team, working for the improvement of the fifth- or sixth-grade student. Another challenge is creating a collaboration culture. Teachers are ought to make at least one visit to one other classroom monthly; they move among grade levels, or the levels from the middle school or selective. These include strict regulations and personnel rules; schools in which leaders tend not to interfere with hiring and firing of staff are considered to be most effective. If principals are given little or no control over persons teaching at their schools, they are very likely to be saddled with some of teachers, maybe, even many teachers regarded as unfit. Monopoly is also an inhibiting factor to leadership; leaders that make schools having the ultimate control over its students, lack the incentive to release some successful students. Most leaders also centralize some key decision making processes which disjoint the policies of school with teachers and students they supposedly exist to protect. Some leaders lack the focus. They do not expect their students to meet high levels and, hence, the education process takes precedence over the policy making and the results analysis. I feel that all teachers should have some seminars, at least, twice a year, where the policies and regulations would be read to them. When creating new policies, teachers should be involved in the process. Persons under some leadership responsibilities at schools ought to view the problems from a wider perspective and explore all the possible approaches for problems solution. It does not harm if one deviated from the normal or rather usual approaches would try a new approach. The frameworks laid down to prepare school heads have some weaknesses which are now being addressed by the programs that have improved on the data based decision making and in the structural leadership. Few programs do acknowledge the fact that some programs do not provide the sufficient preparation for leaders in all circumstances and schools; no programs have, however, majored on the school leadership. The developments have been made in some states; an example is an introduction of extra learning, which is a clear indication that leadership is a process and that the pre-service course work is not sufficient to keep one leader. Principals should be subjected to the environments with different challenges to give t hem; that exposures to problem solving skills all this challenges that should be incorporated in the school heads coursework. I feel that problems should be solved in a wider approach and perspective. Teachers should be involved in solving problems that affect the students, and which also come as a result of parents. Alternative Dispute Resolution Consider carefully the facts of the case study and advise Eagle Aviation Ltd. and Aircraft Ltd. of the alternatives to litigation in the ordinary courts and the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative form of ADR. This submission will identify and define each form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) including each of the forms advantages and disadvantages. It will also compare and contrast each form of ADR and consider which form or forms would be beneficial to both Eagle Aviation Ltd and Aircraft Ltd Alternative Dispute Resolution or ADR can be defined as ââ¬Å"any method of resolving a legal problem without resorting to the legal processâ⬠(Darbyshire, 2001). ADR is now becoming more and more favorable particularly within the court system as an alternative to traditional forms of litigation (Practice Statement [1994] 1 ALL ER 34, Cresswell, J) (Practice Note [1996] 3 ALL ER 383 this is as litigation is a process that can be costly, time consuming and complicated, therefore ADR is an alternative which can be useful to all parties involved. The leading forms of ADR are; Arbitration, mediation, conciliation and negotiation. ADR is not legally binding with the exception of Arbitration, however in Mediation when a solution has been reached and agreed by each party once it has been written and signed by the parties involved it does then become a legally binding document. ADR will only be successful if both parties involved are in agreement with the outcome this of course can become increasingly difficult if the parties refuse to speak to each other, In these cases litigation may be the only viable solution, however ADR is ideal where it is important that each party maintains an unblemished relationship with the other party involved this is especially important within the business community. Arbitration is one of the oldest forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) it is governed by the 1996 Arbitration Act (AA) and is part of the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS). The Act states in Section One that the object of Arbitration is ââ¬Å"to obtain the fair resolution of disputes by an impartial tribunal without necessary delay or expenseâ⬠(Slapper and Kelly, 2003) Arbitration can only transpire if both parties involved agree to it, it is the only form of ADR t... ...ional decision without the situation getting out of hand. Each party will in turn be able to state what they feel is the nature of the dispute before negotiating a suitable outcome. Negotiation is slightly different to Conciliation and Mediation as the person negotiating acts on ââ¬Ëyourââ¬â¢ behalf and represents and looks after ââ¬Ëyourââ¬â¢ interests, a successful negotiator will be able to reach a conclusion where they are able to achieve most of their parties wishes but without causing the other party to feel they have lost and therefore detach themselves from the rest of the negotiation process and then choose to pursue a litigation option. Conciliation can be seen as a form of Mediation in fact some people say that the only difference between them is that Conciliators have more power than Mediators as they can ââ¬Å"suggest grounds for compromise and the possible basis for a conclusive agreementâ⬠(Slapper and Kelly, 2001). Conciliation like Arbitration is part of ACAS and like Mediation tries to allow parties to decide an outcome between them that suits them both, however it does not always guarantee that a dispute will be settled and will not proceed to litigation anyway.
